Most Scientology schools include introductory Scientology courses as part of the required curriculum. The most frequently seen courses are the Basic Study Manual, which teaches the student to use and apply Hubbard’s “study tech” (a self-described ‘learning method’), and the Communication Course, in which teaches Hubbard’s principles of handling interpersonal relationships. Charter schools are public schools funded by tax dollars and chartered by county school districts, but they are operated by their own boards. However, state law requires local school districts to monitor the schools. Jim Robinson, the Pinellas County school district attorney, said he met with the group taking over management of Life Force. Ron Hubbard, the founder At-risk students at the Career Success charter school district have been exposed to teaching methods that have ties to the Church of Scientology, according to former teachers and administrators. Those ex-employees said materials they were asked to use in the classroom crossed the line that separates religion and public schools.
